Infrastructure that makes plastic recovery provable.

Men collecting plastic waste on the beach
The problem

Kenya generates close to a million tonnes of plastic waste a year. Almost none of it is verified.

Roughly 8% of Kenya's plastic waste gets recycled. The rest is landfilled, burned, or washes into the ocean. Behind that number is an informal economy of waste pickers who do the bulk of the recovery work, paid by the kilogram, with no system that records what they collect or proves it happened.

Plastic waste on the Kenyan coast — the gap between real work and verifiable records is what EcoTrack was built to close.

That gap matters more now than it did two years ago. Kenya's Legal Notice 176 put Extended Producer Responsibility obligations into force in 2024. India's 2026 EPR mandate requires blockchain-based verification. The EU's Digital Product Passport takes effect in February 2027. Brands and regulators are being asked to prove recovery claims, not just report them.

The solution

A verified chain of custody, from the collector's hands to the compliance report.

EcoTrack creates a verifiable record at every stage of the recovery process, making plastic waste traceability transparent and auditable for all stakeholders in the value chain.

The platform delivers what each party actually needs: collectors get recognition for their work, aggregators get network visibility, brands get compliant reporting, and regulators get verifiable data — all without requiring trust between parties.

Where we are now

A live pilot, stress-tested before it's scaled

EcoTrack has been live in a Mombasa coastal pilot since May 2026. The pilot is deliberately small: the goal is proving the infrastructure holds up under real field conditions, not maximizing volume. Full current numbers are on the homepage traction table.

Built with enterprise-grade blockchain infrastructure, with IOTA Foundation engaged as infrastructure partner.
